If you are contemplating a trip to Mumbai, take our word for it when we say it may appear scary at first, but it is not. In fact, it is one of India's friendliest cities. The great vitality and rapid speed of life of the locals are difficult to equal. The core of Mumbai has some of the most exquisite colonial buildings, and if you explore the fewer-popular lanes, you will also find a number of unique bazaars, temples, and restaurants, as well as a nightlife that is unlike any other.

Historically, fishing colonies existed on each of the seven islands that would become Mumbai. For centuries the islands were ruled by many indigenous civilizations until being transferred to the Portuguese and then the British East India Company. 

During the middle of the 18th century, significant roads and railways were constructed in Bombay, and the renovation project turned Bombay into a main port on the Arabian Sea.

Following India's independence in 1947, the city became a part of Bombay State. In 1960, following the Sanyukta Maharashtra movement, Bombay became the capital of the new state of Maharashtra. In 1996, the city was called Mumbai. And during this little era of growth, the city has become the commercial and entertainment hub of India.
